I always wondered what sort of speech Stanley Kubrick had given when 2001: A Space Odyssey won the Academy Award for Best Special Effects. Imagine my delight to finally learn that he simply didn’t show up. Like a boss.  

Probably for the best that he didn’t have to participate in this terrible bit by Diahann Carroll and Burt Lancaster.
